The Psychedelic Reformation

Why Psilocybin Belongs in a Church, Not a Clinic. Psilocybin is a sacrament, not a medication. Its rightful home is a community, not a clinic.

ABOUT THE BOOK

We were told it was a renaissance. What it needs is a reformation.

A renaissance implies restoring a golden age. What is under way is a reformation: a reckoning over who gets to broker direct experience of the sacred, much as the Protestant Reformation was a fight over who could read scripture and reach God without an intermediary.

The book moves through the deep history of sacred mushroom use, the limits and blind spots of the clinical model, and my own formation, including Psanctuary’s legal confrontation and survival under religious liberty law. It closes by rejecting the false choice between medical legitimacy and spiritual reality.

FROM THE AUTHOR

“Twenty-seven years of watching this work up close has taught me one thing above all: what we call a medicine is truly a sacrament.”

Eric S. Osborne
